As of July 29th (2008), the Jinx/Rain puppies have gone to their new homes. We couldn't be more pleased about where they've landed, and we can't wait to see what they grow up to be. They are gregarious, curious, and affectionate with all kinds of people and all kinds of dogs. We know they'll go on to do wonderful things and be wonderful family members. We'll hope to see them on the beach, at agility trials, in the hospital halls, and in the herding arena.

As you check out any litter of puppies and any breeder's website, don't be swayed by photos and markings, alone. The right match of puppy to owner is based on temperament, drive, and structure matched to the activities the dog will do when it matures, the home environment, and the experience of the new owner. By the time a puppy is ready to go to its new home, the breeder will have hundreds of hours of play and observation to inform decisions.

Each litter will usually be comprised of puppies with different levels of activity, boldness, and drive. There may be one puppy who is calmer than the rest, one puppy who is needier than the others, or one puppy who just needs to be thinking and working and solving all the time. A responsible breeder should be able to work with prospective owners to match the right puppy to the right home.

It is likely to be a couple of years until our next litter, but we welcome inquiries and requests for information. Satch may be available as a sire when he matures, but it will be a couple of years before we whelp a litter here near Santa Barbara. There is a thoughtful network of Border Collie breeders across the country, and we are happy to share information about this wonderful breed.

Sweet, affable Mico, the tri-color male puppy, went home to Santa Barbara. We are thrilled to know that we'll see him often as he grows, for he'll be by to visit for frequent playdates!
The black and white female pup, now named "Shelby" has gone home to La Canada (near Pasadena), where she may learn agility or obedience or herding as she takes up life with teenagers. We know she's already a star!
The black and white male puppy, now called "Augustus" has gone home to Santa Barbara, where his owner works from home and has a flexible schedule for walks at the dog park and at the beach. We look forward to seeing him play in the water, his favorite activity as a pup!
The black and white male puppy, now named "Augustus", has gone to a family in Santa Barbara. He loves water, and we hope to see him at the beach and at the dog park.
Rogue is the tri-color female staying with us. We have a feeling she'll give Jinx and Satch a run for their money, and we look forward to doing conformation, agility, herding, therapy, and clicker games with her. Maybe she'll love the ocean as much as her mother. She's off to a great start, visiting with dozens of people and dozens of dogs every day as we make our way through boarding school life.
