Jinx was born on Friday, December 13, 2002, and our daughter chose her from the litter because she knew the spunky little female puppy would work and play with anyone and wouldn't mind if we shared her in agility, obedience, conformation and therapy dog work. Named for her birthday, Jinx was a devilish, clever, and self-assured puppy; we used to run hills with her at bedtime to wear her out. She will work and compete for anyone, just for the pleasure of having a job and connecting with a human being. Her idea of a perfect day would be an agility trial where the same dog gets to run the course continuously, with one handler after another, until the sun goes down.

Perhaps when I retire I will achieve the full athletic potential of the dogs I live with...

Or, perhaps not. For now, agility simply brings us great pleasure and connects us to wonderful people and dogs. As a very wise agility friend said, "As long as you get what you need out of it, that's what matters." I take a lot of photographs for magazines and calendars, trade stories with agility and therapy dog friends, and network, learn, educate, and affiliate along the way. Any title we earn is a bonus.

Jinx is currrently competing at the Open level in AKC agility.

Like her sire and dam and grand-sire and grand-dam, Jinx is exceptionally outgoing. She is our second extreme extrovert, selected for my most important activity with our dogs -- therapy dog work at the local hospital. In addtion, we work at a boarding school, so our dogs live with 275 teenagers and the teachers, families, and staff who work, play, and live here. The dogs assume everyone is a potential friend and playmate, and they're socialized from puppyhood around people of all ages, athletic events, concerts, picnics, and community activities. Jinx has served more than 500 hours of community service, visiting patients, mentoring therapy teams, and evaluating potential therapy dogs. She is an exceptional therapy dog, intensely affectionate and attuned to the reactions of patients, family, and staff. She understands the job and loves it.
